HUP Obstetrics Rotation

 

**See the attached handout for “OB off-service interns” that is distributed by the OB department to orient you and discusses common cases that you will definitely encounter**

 

 

Location:

Rhodes 7 is Labor and Delivery. Postpartum/Prepartum is on Silverstein 7 and 8. 

 

 

Setup of Rotation:

At HUP OB, you are functioning as an extra intern on the service, dealing primarily with the postpartum service. You are on with one of the OB interns and will primarily follow their lead in terms of daily duties. Your typical day is  from 6am (board signout at 7am) to 6pm (board signout). See attached sheet for further info. You will take two Saturday calls from 6am to 6pm (you pick the days).

 

 

Computer Systems:

Sunrise: this is used to put in all orders, check results, meds etc.

 

Medview: (including sign-out): this is used to see more extensive records on a patient.

 

www.hupobgyn.com - is the website that has all the HUP staff pagers/information and a nice online pregnancy wheel

 

QS: Used to access vitals, fetal heart tracings, tocodynameters for laboring patients. Also used to print out discharge summary for patient in lieu of a verbal dictation.

 

Navicare: System used to communicate info about patients between nurses, physicians, discharge planners. Tracks patient on each floor by name/room#. You will be able to find info re: which nurse is assigned to which patient. 

 

 

 

Charts:

There are full paper charts in the cubbies above patient rooms and the nursing flow sheets are in a small black binder next to the full chart in the cubbies.

 

 

Parking:

1. The parking lot is on 34^th street past HUP and CHOP. It is called parking lot 51. There is a shuttle bus that runs back and forth between parking lot/HUP and CHOP usually every 5-10 mins and more frequently during rush hour. Take the shuttle otherwise it is a good 10 min walk to the hospital.

5. The parking magnet card will be given to you during orientation. You will also be given a parking sticker that you are supposed to display on the left passenger window of your car.

 

 

Cafeteria:

The Cafeteria is located on the 2^nd floor of the Founders building. You will be given $50 credit for food applied to your HUP ID card, which you can swipe to pay.
